Maya agreed and placed the keys to the ATV in her pocket. Michael closed and locked the shed containing the sleek four-wheeled Beast. Maya was suddenly lost in her imagination as she thought about how much fun riding this new and unusual thing might be. Little did she know how much of a challenge lay ahead.

Maya, Inari, Michael, and Izzy had dinner together that night at a gorgeous wooden table. Their meal consisted of barbecued chicken and grilled vegetables, including carrots and asparagus topped with goat cheese, all grown in Michael’s garden behind the house. The savory taste of it all reminded Maya of home, and of her mother’s cooking. The meal was accompanied by laughter and smiles all through the night. For a moment, Maya felt as if she was home again.
